Artwork Description: Les Voiles du Monde
“Les Voiles du Monde” is a piece that invites reflection on the harmony between humanity, nature, and our shared journey aboard the same vessel: planet Earth. This sculpture, both poetic and symbolic, explores multiple artistic and philosophical dimensions.
Symbolic Aspects:
1. The Hollowed Sails:
The sails feature empty spaces at their center. This reflects the way sailors interpret the wind: little information can be gathered from the center of a sail. Adjustments are made by observing the edges, the leech, and the foot. These empty spaces symbolize the mystery of the wind, its invisibility, and the importance of reading between the lines to truly understand the elements.
2. Planet Earth as the Hull of the Boat:
The sculpture rests on a sphere representing the Earth, which serves as the hull of the vessel. This choice conveys a powerful idea: we are all traveling aboard the same ship — our planet. It is therefore essential to care for it and preserve the delicate balance between humanity and the environment.
3. The Trimmed Sails with a Calm Sea:
The sails are tightly trimmed, yet the sailboat heels only slightly. This evokes a calm sea and a light breeze, creating a serene atmosphere. It reflects the moment when a sailboat returns from the open sea: as it enters the bay, the wind eases, the water flattens, and the harbor comes into view. It is a metaphor for returning to peace after a turbulent journey.
